Yoga and Hops

colgrady| Blog+ Indianapolis

Brew Yoga is becoming quite the trend across the United
States.  Now many Breweries are moving over their bar tables and rolling out the yoga mats on weekend mornings. A “Brewoga” session typically includes an hour yoga session with a token for your choice of a craft beer after. A balancing match of little detox and retox can do the soul some good. That is a common theme in yoga, correct? Balance?

My Experience

Yoga and Hops is an organization that host yoga sessions at different breweries around Indianapolis. This organization is spread through many different cities in the US, but for this article I am focusing on the Indianapolis branch. Yoga an Hops sessions create an opportunity to sweat and be social. These are great events to meet other local yoginis and beer enthusiast around the city. A morning of brewoga is also inviting to get men practicing yoga in a familiar environment.

I attended a Valentine’s Day theme partner yoga class at Four Day Ray Brewery. I took my dad as my partner because he is only man I can (usually) rely on. As I said before these brewoga classes are easier to lure men into. The class was held on a Sunday morning and it was packed with energetic and personable yoginis. My dad and I were actually quite the pair and could execute each partner yoga pose. We have been practicing yoga sporadically together for a number of years now. Some partner poses just felt like positions we would play around doing on the living room floor as I was growing up. We laughed, stretched, and grunted (my dad not me) through the class.

After the class we got a ticket for a craft beer of our choice. Class was held in a secluded brewery area, therefore we had our own special brew bar. My dad and I were poured our favorite IPA; and then stayed for a half hour drinking and chatting with the other participants. We really enjoyed ourselves and our time spent participating in a Yoga and Hops class. This is something we will aim to go at least monthly together as a dad / daughter date.
