We have officially hit a peak in the 21st century where you can walk down the most popular avenue in your city and get an IV of vitamins if you are feeling depleted. IV therapy is receiving an intravenous infusions of hydration packs containing an array of vitamins. This is typically referred to as a drip. There are no doctors notes or appointments needed for these drips. There are many different packages of IV therapy; this could be the perfect way to start a weekend of partying with their hangover/pre-party package or to prep for a week of intensive studying with their brain focus package. I personally like the idea of using it after several weeks of working nonstop. You can make IV therapy a treat for yourself mch like getting a monthly massage.
Last week I went to Vitality IV Bar on Massachusetts Avenue for some hydration and rejuvenation. IV therapy was something I had been wanting to try for over a year. I had visited a few other cities in the US that had these services. IV therapy is popular in cities like Las Vegas, Austin, Los Angeles, etc. The timing never worked out for me to go. Finally this summer, IV therapy has made waves to Indianapolis.
So what is the purpose of receiving one of these IVs?
IV therapy helps to hydrate the body. More than half of Americans are chronically dehydrated and do not even realize it. Our bodies are 60% water; humans need water for tissue growth, regulation of body temperature, lubrication of joints, manufacture neurotransmitters and hormones, etc. Lack of dehydration can be the causation of mental fogginess, fatigue, headache, increased hunger, etc. This is another reason IV therapy is a good relief after a busy couple of weeks where you’ve probably not been getting all the hydration you need running around.
On the other hand all of the drips are loaded with vitamins. These vitamins have quicker absorption rates due to being administered into the bloodstream. Whereas traditional vitamin supplements only have about a 20% absorption rate due to digestion. Over 40% of American are deficient in vitamins A, C, D, E, Calcium, and Magnesium. Our vitamin deficiencies deal a lot with our lifestyle choices. It is not a secret many Americans do not eat the recommended amount of fruits or vegetables a day. Vitamin need are different for each person based on lifestyle choices. People who depleted with bodies often due to marathon running, excessive consumption of alcohol, chemotherapy treatments, constant travel, etc need vitamins more than others. Vitality IV Bar offers 15 different cocktails of vitamins to cater to any specific health or lifestyle needs.
My Experience at Vitality IV Bar.
At Vitality I received the the original Myer’s Cocktail. This drip contains Vitamin C, B12, B Complex, Magnesium, B5, and Calcium. These vitamins are useful if you are having issues with fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, stress, depression, allergies, and weak immune system. Receiving an IV is similar to the feeling you have when giving blood. It is not painful but the prick in and out out can be a little uncomfortable. It is only about 20 seconds of being uncomfortable; suffering from an hour headache is much worse than the prick. Vitality has a registered nurse on site at all times to administer the IV, so you are always in good hands and receiving professional care. Vitality has created feel good environment. I felt very cozy and comfortable in their space.
The Aftermath
To preface this is my personal experience and each experience can be completely different based on your lifestyle and vitamin deficiencies. I received my IV in the evening and I slept extremely deep that night. I had the the following day off and I slept most of it. This is abnormal for me. I typically am a light sleeper and I do not take nap easily. When I researched more and sleeplessness is sign of vitamin deficiencies for some of the vitamins I received. These vitamins finally allowed me to feel relaxed enough to get the deep sleep my body had been missing. I was not very hungry at all the following day. Note I did sleep way more than normal this day, although a sign of dehydration is hunger. Now I could have been at my optimal hydration and may have only been hungry for what my body nutritionally needs. I had really good digestion in the following days after. I felt lighter, more regular, and less bloated. Throughout the week I continued to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. It felt like IV therapy and deep sleep were exactly what my soul needed.
