Tuk Tuk hostel is a budget accommodation located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Here you can find clean spacious dorm rooms, a safe and welcoming environment, travel advice, and some of the best hospitality I have encountered traveling.
It took me over 24 hours of flight time to arrive to Colombo from Indianapolis, Indiana. My arrival time was less than desirable (not quite ideal). My flight did not get in until 1:35am. I was nervous about this being an issue because the airport is about 45 minutes away from the city and I would have to factor in each accommodations check in time. I spoke with the owner of Tuk Tuk Hostel, Hashan. He helped me arrange a taxi for when I finally touched down in Sri Lanka and could seek refuge in a real bed instead of an airplane seat. This was a huge a relief for me and a perfect reflection of the hospitality showcased at Tuk Tuk Hostel.
I found Tuk Tuk Hostel to be in a convenient location the next morning when I was in need of adventure and a trip to the supermarket. The supermarket was only a 3 minute walk away. This made it very easy to find the fuel I needed and get it back to the kitchen quickly. On the first day I arrived, I found a yoga workshop. It was perfect to release all the airplane fatigue in my body. Tuk Tuk Hostel was only a half mile away from the yoga shala. Here I also found the Cinnamon Gardens, a popular attraction also located about a half mile away from this accommodation. This is a great place to relax and spend the afternoon. Tuk Tuk Hostel offers a great location that makes navigating Colombo much easier.
In my final day in Colombo, I spent some time with the owner, Hashan. He offered to help me with my route around Sri Lanka. I was definitely needing a second set of eyes on my itinerary to ensure I was making the most out of my trip. Hashan gave me insight on authentic adventures to look for in other cities around the country. He also suggested a few less busy places to visit which he thought I would enjoy based on my interest in buddhism, meditation, and yoga. I felt he gave me insight on the country out of pure authenticity and did not try to sell me tours or attractions which you typically find in hostels or accommodation everywhere. It was like getting advice from a friend, not someone that will make commission on me booking adventures.
Overall, I would recommended Tuk Tuk Hostel to any traveller in Sri Lanka. It is a place that offers everything a traveller needs and more. Bookings can be made through HostelWorld or Booking.com. It is located at 391/3B, Samarasinghe Mawatha, Thimbirigasyaya, Colombo.
